Why are some Americans against total Individual Liberty and Freedom?

I am for total Individual Liberty and Freedom–all governmental and legal control over individuals should be eliminated. The only government and laws that should exist should only provide for military protection from our enemies, road and dam building, scientific research to protect against/prepare for natural disasters, and for protection from physical attack or theft by other Americans. A very simple streamlined system of government and laws–without social engineering capabilities on the part of the government. The people govern and rule the government and laws–not the government and laws ruling the people!
